Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to some of the most common questions I am asked are below.

What kind of work do you do? Are there any areas of work you don't do?

I work with anyone over 18 years old and have experience in most areas of work. Previous clients have brought: anxiety; depression; loss and bereavement; relationship breakdown and difficulties; single parenting; OCD; work-related stress; confidence issues; childhood trauma including sexual abuse; eating disorders (although I am not a specialist in this area - I work with it as part of who you are and what in your past helps explain it); adjusting to life post-recovery from addiction; ageing issues.

If you want to discuss anything where I feel I need to refer you on to a more specialist therapist, I would explain this as early as possible in our work together.

What happens in the first session?

I will ask you to explain a little about you and your past and hear about what motivated you to come to counselling. We will discuss our agreement about working together including about your personal data. I will ask about any goals you may have.

When and where are the sessions?

In our initial chat I will let you know my availability and agree a time slot when you can attend every week for a 50 minute session. I see clients on Mondays and Thursdays currently, usually in person but some online slots may be available. I do not work in the evenings, I am sorry.

My counselling room is on the ground floor in Prestbury, Cheltenham. There will usually be a parking place just outside.

How much does it cost?

I charge £50 per session. I do not charge for missed sessions, such as holidays and when you can give me at least 48 hours' notice, but as we will discuss, you will find that keeping to the commitment to attend every week is hugely beneficial to reaching your goals.

How do I pay?

I prefer bank transfer and ask that you pay immediately after the session. I will provide bank details along with our agreement at the first session.

How long will it take?

It depends entirely on you and your needs. Counselling can sometimes last as little as six weeks, sometimes a year or more. I will always work with you to find the right time to end.
